Jenson Buttoon of newly formed team Brawn GP won second consecutive race of the 2009 Formula 1 season as he won the rain hit 2009 Malaysian Grand Prix. BMW Sauber's Nick Heidfeld finished second and Toyota's Timo Glock finished 3rd.

Rain interrupted the race in the 22nd lap of the 56 lap scheduled race, Button who lost his lead to Glock in the process of changing to wet tyres swept back his lead in 29th lap and leading the race in 33rd lap when the race was stopped after a thunderstorm broke at the Sepang International Circuit.

All the drivers will get half the points where they finished in the race.

Jenson Button after won 2009 penning race last week at Melbourne continues his dream run with the new team Brawn GP as he takes pole in the 2009 Malaysian Grand Prix, 2nd race of the season at Sepang circuit Kuala Lumpur on Saturday, for the Race Day on Sunday, 5th April, 2009.

Button took a time of 1 min 35.181 seconds to secure the fifth position and second of the season closely beaten Toyota's Jarno rulli who finished 2nd with a time of 1min 35.273sec.

Tim Glock will start at 3rd place after penalties handed out to Sebastian Vettel and Rubens Barrichello. William's Nico Rosberg and Mark Webber's Red Bull finished 4th and 5th respectively followed by Kubica at 6th with Kimi Raikkonen's in Ferrari in 7th and the Renault of Fernando Alonso in 8th.

Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello created history for new team Brawn GP when they won from the front row to finish 1st, 2nd respectively in the Formula1 season opening 2009 ING Australian Grand Prix on Sunday, 29th March, 2009 at Melbourne.

Toyota's Trulli over took McLaren's Lewis Hamilton in the last lap to finish 3rd and 4th respectively. Timo Glock in 2nd Toyota finished 5th ahead of Renault's Fernando Alonso who finished 6th.

Ross Brown bought the opted out Honda team 4 months ago and created history a new teams both drivers will start from the front row.

Button got the pole with his lap of 1m 26.202s beaten his Brazilian team mate timing of 1m 26.505s. Sebastian Vettel’s took 3rd position on his debut for Red Bull with a lap of 1m 26.830s.

BMW Saubers dricer Robert Kubica drived superbly for 4th place in 1m 26.914s and Williams Nico Rosberg finished 5th with 1m 26.973s followed by Tim Glock in his Toyota 1m 26.975s.

Ferrari's and last year runner up was 7th with 1m 27.033s, followed by Jarno Trulli in the second Toyota on 1m 27.127s. Kimi Raikkonen in other Farrari 1m 27.163s and Red Bull's Mark Webber on 1m 27.246s finished in top 10.

Honda on Friday, 5th December 2008 have announced that they are quitting from Formula One and they will no longer in the race that means Honda F1 team on sale, actively involved in motorsport since 1960.

Japanese giant car-maker Honda's chief executive, Takeo Fukui, announced the shocking news of Honda's retirement from F1 at the company's headquarters in central Tokyo, Japan.

Dramatic slump in car sales world wide due to golbal financial crisis has forced Honda Motor Co Ltd to pull out the plug spending over £200 million per year on Formula One - F1 operation.

Honda's sudden retirement from F1 left the two Honda drivers, Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello for the next season along with unemployment for the 600 employees located at Honda Racing headquarters in Brackley, Northamptonshire. Honda Racing chief executive Nick Fry has confirmed three overseas parties have expressed an interest in a potential buy-out, most likely from the Middle East.

Meanwhile another Japanese giant Toyota confirmed his continuation for Formula 1.

In a thrilling race of season ending 2008 F1 season, Ferrari's Felipe Massa won the Brazilian Grand Prix but McLaren's Lewis Hamilton clinched 2008 Driver's Championship title by a single point at Interlagos circuit, Sao Paulo. Ferrari won the 2008 Constructor's Championship.

In the final lap Massa set to be champion as he drived superbly from start to finish as Hamilton was sixth but a very slow last lap from Tim Glock gave him the fifth place he needed and effectively decides the championship.

Trailing Hamilton by 7 points, Massa put a brilliant performance to take pole and now overwhelming favorite to lead from the front and take the chequered flag on Sunday, barring mechanical issues, and then it becomes a question of where Hamilton finishes.

Massa and Hamilton go the same way before Brazilian used a new set of tyres to record a lap of 1m 12.368s and clinched pole. Raikkonen finished 3rd with 1m 12.825s and bisected two Ferrari's by Toyota's Jarno Trulli with with 1m 12.737s.

Heikki Kovalainen lines up fifth on 1m 12.917s in the second McLaren followed by Renault's Fernando Alonso with the timing of 1m 12.967s. Torro Rosso's drivers Sebastian Vettel and Sebastien Bourdais finished 7th and ninth place respectively and bisected by Nick Heidfeld in BMW Sauber. Timo Glock completed the top 10 for Toyota.

In one of the most dramatic race of the 2008 season Ferrari's Felipe Massa awarded the 2008 Belgian Grand Prix after stewards imposed a 25 second penalty to McLaren's Lewis Hamilton, as he had taken the chequered flag but he was penalized into an incident on lap 42 of the 44-lap race.

Hamilton was penalized after stewards decided he had gained an advantage by cutting the final chicane in his late-race battle with Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen. Raikkonen crashed out shortly after the incident, having the led the most of the race. The final result of the race was Massa 1st, BMW Sauber's Nick Heidfeld promoted to second place and Hamilton falling to third.

With six laps remaining rain started and increased the thrill in the race as Hamilton and Raikkonen battled to win the race and with just 2 laps to go Kimi slid off into a wall, out of the race.

McLaren's Heikki Kovalainen secured the first pole position of his F1 career at the 2008 British Grand Prix, for the Race Day on Sunday, 6th July, 2008, in the 2nd last race at the Silverstone circuit. Red Bull's Mark Webber join him in the front row.

Kimi Raikkonen will start third in his Ferrari, followed by Lewis Hamilton in 2nd McLaren. However, rain will play an important role in the outcome of the race.

McLaren's Heikki Kovalainen was the fastest the way in the second official practice session ahead of the 2008 British Grand Prix, for the Race Day on Sunday, 6th July 2008. FIA has confirmed Silverstone would lose the staging rights to the British Grand Prix after next year's race, with Donington Park taking its place from 2010.

Kovalainen was the only driver to duck under the one minute 20 second barrier this afternoon with a lap of 1min 19.989secs, which was four tenths slower than the overall fastest time set by Ferrari's Felipe Massa this morning as the teams concentrating on longer runs.

Red Bull Racing's Mark Webber celebrated his new one-year contract extension with second place, half a second slower than the Finn, while Kovalainen's team-mate Lewis Hamilton popped up into third place with a late 1:20.543 effort.

Lewis Hamilton, a drive-through penalty early on - after starting from 13th on the grid - wrecked his bid for points, with the 23-year-old finishing 10th, and he now trails Massa by 10 points. The Brazilian trailed team mate Kimi Raikkonen for the first 38 of the 70 laps.

McLaren's Lewis Hamilton registered 2nd win of the season by winning an action packed 2008 De Monaco Grand Prix, on Sunday, 25th May, at Monte Carlo. After an early run into the barriers on a wet circuit as the rain fell, Hamilton managed to hold his nerve, becoming only the fifth Briton to take the chequered flag.

The race was full of accidents due to early rain but Hamilton , so superb in the wet, won the race in style, BMW Sauber's Kubica finished 2nd followed by Felipe Massa in his Ferrari.

Mark Webber finished fourth for Red Bull ahead of Sebastian Vettel, who finally got a break to bring his new Toro Rosso STR3 home fifth in front of Rubens Barrichello’s Honda, who finished sixth. The Williams of Kazuki Nakajima was seventh, with Kovalainen a resolute eighth.

Raikkonen was unable to slot back into a points-scoring position, finishing ninth overall. Force India had a good chance of scoring 1st points of the season as Adrian Sutil, who had driven superbly to hold fourth but accident with Raikkonen forced him out of the race.

Its all Ferrari in the front row at Monte Carlo as Brazilian Felipe Massa takes pole position followed by team mate Kimi Raikkonen as they got off to a great start in qualifying on Saturday for the Race Day on Sunday, 25th May, at 2008 De Monaco Grand Prix.

Massa lapped in 1m 15.787s to snatch pole from Raikkonen (1m 15.815s) in the dying seconds, and if he wins on Sunday he will be the first Ferrari driver to do so from pole here since Jody Scheckter in 1979.

McLaren shared the second row as Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen timed 1m 15.839s and 1m 16.165s respectively for 3rd and 4th place.

Robert Kubica in BMW was fifth with 1m 16.171s while Nico Rosberg carried his excellent practice form into qualifying with sixth on the grid for Williams in 1m 16.548s.

Lewis Hamilton looking for his 1st win of 2008 Formula 1 Championship, cruised through the streets of Monte Carlo on Thursday en route to what he hopes will be a maiden 2008 Monaco Grand Prix victory, on Race Day, Sunday , 25th May, 2008.

Hamilton posted the quickest time throughout practice, he 23-year-old's lap of one minute 15.140secs was almost 0.6secs quicker than Fernando Alonso's pole position of last season.

Williams of Nico Rosberg was second fastest, reigning world champion and current leader in the drivers' standings Kimi Raikkonen was third overall.

Fellow Ferrari driver Felipe Massa and McLaren's Heikki Kovalainen were fourth and fifth, and the only other drivers to come within a second of Hamilton's trailblazing time.

Robert Kubica is again firmly in the running as he was sixth, with Alonso seventh for Renault, although the Spaniard cut his session short.

World Champion Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen cruised to victory in a Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday, 27th April 2008 at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona. The race was hit by an horrendous accident involving Heikki Kovalainen.

The McLaren driver miraculously suffered nothing more than concussion after ploughing into a tyre wall nose first at 150mp. He was eventually airlifted to a nearby hospital with his neck in a brace to undergo a series of precautionary checks.

Raikkonen, meanwhile, led from pole to flag, the eighth successive occasion that has occurred at this track to strengthen his lead at the top of the drivers' standings.

Alonso had started second on the grid, but off the line was unable to defend his position as Massa passed him.

Although he was also predictably running light on fuel, he was on course for a decent points finish as he was running in fifth when he pulled off the track, as did Nico Rosberg in his Williams that also sustained a blown engine.

Raikkonen now has a nine-point lead over Hamilton, with BMW Sauber's Robert Kubica a further point back in third after he came home fourth.

Red Bull's Mark Webber was fifth, with Jenson Button picking up Honda's first points of the season in sixth, while Kazuki Nakajima broke his duck for Williams in finishing seventh, followed by the Toyota of Jarno Trulli.

Kimi Raikkonen takes pole position for Ferrari right at the end of a dramatic qualifying session for the Sunday's 2008 Spanish Grand Prix. The Spanish crowd went mad when Alonso planted his Renault on pole with 1m 20.904s, but then Raikkonen rained on their parade with 1m 20.813s.

Fastest man Felipe Massa third on 1m 22.058s, from Kubica (1m 22.065s) and Hamilton (1m 22.096s), with Kovalainen joining his McLaren team mate on the third row with 1m 22.231s.

Brazilian Felipe Massa wins 2008 Bahrain Grand Prix in style for Ferrari in the 57-lap race at the Sakhir circuit. Poland's Robert Kubica starting on pole for the first time in his Formula One career, the BMW Sauber driver was unable to prevent a Ferrari one-two as team mate and World champion Kimi Raikkonen captured second place.

McLaren's Lewis Hamilton struggled through out the race and finished 13th place and lost his world championship points lead. Kubica held onto third for the remainder of the race from team-mate Nick Heidfeld, and with the 11 points from the duo it means BMW Sauber lead the constructors' championship for the first time in their history.

Jarno Trulli in his Toyota was sixth, followed by the Red Bull of Mark Webber for a second successive seventh place, with Williams' Nico Rosberg taking a point for eighth place.

Alonso survived his brush with Hamilton to take 10th place, unable to stay with ninth-placed Timo Glock in the second Toyota, and by the finish he had a hungry Rubens Barrichello breathing down his neck in the Honda. The Brazilian had earlier fought with and beaten fast-starting Giancarlo Fisichella, who took 12th ahead of Hamilton for Force India.

David Coulthard had a relatively quiet race to ninth in the second Red Bull ahead of fellow Briton, Jenson Button, who survived a late off-track moment in his Honda to lead home Renault’s Nelson Piquet, the Brazilian rookie recording his first Grand Prix finish.

Giancarlo Fisichella was 12th for Force India, a lap down, taking the place after Honda’s Rubens Barrichello had to serve a drive-through penalty for pit lane speeding.

Felipe Massa will head an all-Ferrari front row after the Brazilian took pole position for the Malaysian Grand Prix for the second consecutive year. His team mate Kimi Raikkonen share the front row at second place.

Massa's time of one minute 35.748 seconds beat Kimi Raikkonen by nearly half a second with Heikki Kovalainen out-pacing team-mate Lewis Hamilton to claim third for McLaren.

Season opening Australian Grand Prix winner Hamilton will start the 56-lap race from fourth on the grid after his time of 1min 36.709secs trailed Massa by nearly a full second. He will be disappointed with a performance that fell below his usual high standards.

Jarno Trulli will start an impressive fifth for Toyota, while Kubica took sixth for BMW Sauber with team-mate Heidfeld seventh. Mark Webber qualified eighth for Red Bull, Fernando Alonso ninth in his Renault and Toyota's Timo Glock rounded out the top 10.

In second free practice of the 2008 Malaysian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton of McLaren set the fastest time. After the first day of practice for the Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix, there is a chance of close fight between McLaren and Ferrari for the rest of the weekend.

Felipe Massa had dominated the first session and the Ferraris had once again held the upper hand for the majority of the second 90-minute practice period.

But Hamilton produced a lap of one minute 35.055 seconds, the fastest of the day, to edge out Massa by just over a tenth of a second with Kimi Raikkonen 0.373secs back in third, demonstrating the championship pacesetter will be a force to be reckoned with in Sepang.

McLaren British driver Lewis Hamilton won the season opening Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park, Melbourne on Sunday, 16th March 2008.

The drama simply couldn't catch up with Hamilton's McLaren at the front of the field as the Englishman drove a spectacular and flawless race from start to finish to clinch the first GP of the season and register his first win at Albert Park.

Only seven drivers effectively made it across the chequered flag - with Bourdais and Raikkkonen being classified despite their respective retirements in the dying stages of the race.
McLaren will be disappointed at not having a stronger result from Kovalainen who clearly lost out after the third safety car period threw his pit strategy haywire; and disturbed the one:two formation that the team held through several parts of the race.

BMW proved that they're clearly a team to contend with this season with Nick Heidfeld bringing home a worthy second place for the team after Kubica's misfortune following a great qualifying outing. They will undoubtedly be hunting for their maiden victory sooner than later.

Nico Rosberg registered his first ever podium place and seemed delighted with the Williams package, which also looked impressive all weekend.

Fernando Alonso finished 4th in his Renault, Kovalainen 5th in McLaren, Rubens Barrichello finished sixth with Honda, Kazuki Nakajima seventh in Williams and Sebastien Bourdais grabbed the final point with Toro Rosso.

Force India F1 has the disaster start of their Formula 1 debut season as both of their drivers Giancarlo Fisichella and Adrian Sutil not able to finish the race.

The 58-lap, action-packed race saw six different teams picking up points with McLaren and Williams being the only two constructors to have both their drivers finish in the points.

Lewis Hamilton got his bid for the Formula One world championship off to the perfect start after taking pole position for Sunday's Australian Grand Prix. This is Briton's seventh career pole.

The McLaren driver's time of one minute 26.714 seconds was good enough to edge out Robert Kubica's BMW Sauber by 0.155 secs. It was a good day for McLaren, with Heikki Kovalainen taking third, ahead of Massa, with 1m 27.079s.

With Kimi Raikkonen already sidelined after problems in Q2, team mate Felipe Massa had to uphold Ferrari honour alone in Q3, but after recording 1m 27.178s on his first run, he failed to improve on his second. Kubica, meanwhile, was on a blinder that resulted in 1m 26.869s even though he ran wide in Turn Nine. The Pole kept his foot in it and didn’t appear to lose an awful lot of time, and planted his BMW Sauber on the front row for the first time in his career.

When an F1 Driver hits the brakes on his car he experiences retardation or deceleration comparable to a regular car driving through a BRICK wall at 300kmph!

An average F1 Driver looses about 4kgs of weight after just one race due to the prolonged exposure to high G forces and temperatures for little over an hour.

The fit in the cockpit is so tight that the steering wheel must be removed for the driver to get in or out of the car. A small latch behind the wheel releases it from the column. Levers or paddles for changing gear are located on the back of the wheel. So no gearstick! The clutch levers are also on the steering wheel, located below the gear paddles.

The New FIA Rules from the 2007 Formula One Season

The FIA has made many changes to both the sporting and technical regulations from the 2007 Formula 1 season.

New Rules for Engines:

The FIA has designed measures to cut development costs. Engines homologated and used in the last two races in 2006 must be used in the 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 seasons. This measure has been widely described as an 'engine freeze'. Engines are rev-limited to 19000rpm. The rule of the two race engine no longer applies to the Friday practice sessions. This means that drivers can save their race engines for the remainder of the weekend by using alternative engines on Fridays.

Weekend Schedule:

The Grand Prix weekend format has seen a slight modification and the two practice sessions on Fridays have been extended from 60 to 90 minutes each.

New Rules for Tyres:

The new rules have made Bridgestone Formula One racing’s sole tyre supplier rom 2007. Only specifications of tyre per event will be given to each team. All the same each team will get more sets, twofour per driver on Fridays and ten for the remainder of the weekend. During the race each driver must use both specifications. Spectators can easily distinguish which tyre a driver is using at any time by a white grove on the tread of the softer compound.

Rules for Safety Car:

Safety car regulations have been modified from 2007. The modification have been made to stop back markers from interfering with the leaders during the restart of a race and to prevent drivers from diving for the pits the moment the safety car comes onto the circuit. Until the field behind the safety car is bunched up no car is permitted to enter the pits. Before the safety car goes back to the pit, any lapped car running between cars on the lead lap should overtake those cars and the safety car before taking their correct position at the back.

Rules for Friday Practice Sessions:

All teams are now allowed to run one alternative test driver during each Friday session and third cars will no longer be allowed. The alternative driver can use either of the team's race cars but should be nominated beforehand.

Safety Rules:

For more effective potential hazard alerts, a GPS marshalling system is being introduced. This system involves a cockpit light display of flag signals in each driver’s car. It is now required for all cars to be fitted with a medical warning light a little ahead of the driver's cockpit. This is connected to the FIA data logger and is set up to provide the rescue crew with immediate indication of the accident’s severity. The mandatory crash tests have been made more stringent. The minimum size for the impact absorbing structure has been raised. The velocity used in the frontal impact test has also been increased to 15m/s from 14 m/s.

The new rule dictates that the driver's cockpit must be fitted out with special anti penetration panels of zylon. In order to offset the weight of the panels, an additional five kgs have been added to the car’s minimum weight requirement.

Lewis Hamilton signs a new five-year multi-million pound contract with McLaren

Lewis Hamilton on Friday signed a new five-year multi-million pound contract with McLaren which commits him to the team until 2012. Now he has become one of Britain's highest-paid sportsmen.

Hamilton has now made a long-term commitment to the McLaren team, who were heavily fined last year for their involvement in the F1 `spy row'. The new deal underlines the relationship between Hamilton and a team he has been associated with since an early age.

Hamilton, who turned 23 just 11 days ago, said: "It's fantastic for me the team has extended my contract until 2012.

The five-year deal is believed to be worth £10million per year, or £200,000 per week - a bumper pay packet that eclipses the country's Premier League stars.

Only David Beckham, whose five-year contract with LA Galaxy was rumoured to be £128million over its duration, can claim to earn more than Hamilton.

The 23-year-old came within a point of winning the world title, only to lose out in the final grand prix of the campaign in Brazil as circumstances conspired against him.

Hamilton, though, won four races and broke every rookie record in the Formula One history books, ensuring it would be only a matter of when, and not if, McLaren would offer a new deal.

With the contract not due to expire until 2012, should Hamilton remain with the team up until that time, it means his partnership with McLaren will stretch to 15 years.

Hamilton was initially signed up a decade ago at the age of 13 as he was supported through various karting and junior formulae en route to his breakthrough into Formula One.

Such is his affinity with McLaren, he freely concedes he "could easily drive for this team for the whole of my Formula One career".

In one of the most dramatic climaxes to a Formula One season, a gripping Brazilian Grand Prix saw rank outsider Kimi Raikkonen burst through to snatch the world championship by just 1 point. Before the race Kimi was 7 points and Alonso 4 points behind Hamilton.

The race was full of excitement and only at the end of the race champion has decided. Kimi won the race and team mate Felippa Massa avoided Alonso by finishing 2nd ahead of Alonso leaving him 1 point behind Kimi in Standing. Hamilton needed to finish at least 5th to clinch the title but unfortunately finished 7th.

Hamilton’s feisty recovery from his off-road moment, and then a gearbox problem when the system momentarily stuck in neutral on the eighth lap, brought him up to seventh place, thus giving him 109 points too. But with one second place more than Alonso, he got the nod for second place overall over the Spaniard.

Between the two team mates, fourth place was a pitched battle between Nico Rosberg’s Williams and the BMW Saubers of Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld. They finished in that order after some gripping racing. Behind Hamilton, Jarno Trulli took the final point for Toyota.

Formula 1's World Driver Championship is still wide open as Championship leader Lewis Hamilton failed to fnish the race in the Chinese Grand Prix and Kimi Raikkonen snatched victory for Ferrari.

Now the situation is that Defendin Champion Fernando Alonso is only 4 points and Kimi Raikkonen only 7 points behind the leader Lewis Hamilton to set up an enthralling three-man battle for the drivers' crown in the final race of the season in Brazil on October 21.

Britain's Hamilton still leads with 107 points from Alonso's 103 with Raikkonen on 100 points after his fifth victory of the season. This win is the 200th win overall for Ferrari.

It will be the first time since 1986 that three drivers go into the final round of the season still
in contention for the drivers' crown.

Hamilton, 22, looked on course to become the first rookie and the youngest driver in history to win the world championship until it all went wrong when his intermediate tyres suddenly became un-drivable in the changing track conditions caused by the on-off rain, on lap 31 of the 56-lap race.

Raikkonen took the lead from Hamilton in the middle of the race to to claim the 14th victory of his career.

Double world champion Alonso had looked a beaten man after qualifying fourth but now finds his bid to become only the third man to win a hat-trick of titles.

Brazil's Felipe Massa filled the other podium place Sunday for Ferrari.

There was heavy rain at Fuji Speedway circuit, as rain and mist forced the race to start under the safety car with visibility virtually impossible.

However, after 19 agonising laps tiptoeing around the 4.5km circuit, the cars were given the green light and the race was on.

Lewis Hamilton drove a faultless race in difficult conditions, whilst others fell by the wayside

Championship leader Lewis Hamilton finished 4th behind bitter rival Fernando Alonso in Mclaren. Fernando Alonso is now only 2 poits behind Hamilton as three races to go.

BMW-Sauber’s Nick Heidfeld consolidated his position as the best of the rest with another fifth place finish whilst Williams’ Nico Rosberg secured his second consecutive sixth place.

Mark Webber grabbed his first points since the European Grand Prix with seventh whilst Heikki Kovalainen took the last of the points in eighth for Renault.

Introduction to Formula 1 Racing

Formula One (F1) also known as "Grand Prix", is the highest level of car racing defined by the motor sport's world governing body, Federation International of Automobile (FIA). The results of all the races in a year are combined to decide two annual World Championships, one for Driver Championships and one for Constructor Championships.

The speed of the cars in F1 race is very high, often greater than 320 km/h (200 mph). The performance of the cars is highly dependent on electronics, aerodynamics, suspension and tyres.

Europe is Formula 1's traditional center and remains its leading market but Grand Prix are held all over the world, with new races in Bahrain, China, Malaysia, Turkey and the United States since 1999. It goes on increasing and India is a possible venue in 2009. In 2007, total 17 races are going to be held and 9 are outside Europe. F1 is considered as the world's most expensive sport.

The number of Grand Prix held in a season has varied over the years. Only seven races comprised the inaugural 1950 World Championship. The number of races had stayed at sixteen or seventeen since the 1980s, and it reached highest to nineteen in 2005.

A Formula One race consists of several laps around a circuit. A typical circuit usually features a stretch of straight road on which the starting grid is situated. A typical circuit of Formula 1 varies up to several KM and the number of laps depends on the length of the circuit. There is a "Pit Lane" in every circuit, where the drivers stop for fuel and tyres during the race, and where the teams work on the cars before the race, is normally located next to the starting grid. In most of the cases the layout of the circuit runs in a clockwise direction.

Currently total 10 teams are participating in Formula One with two cars per team, therefore total 20 cars competing in a race. A Formula One Grand Prix event spans an entire weekend, beginning with two free practice sessions on Friday. After this, a qualifying session is held for Pole position, which decides the position of the cars for the race in two cars per row format. The pole position is decided by the time taken by a driver to complete the circuit i.e. one round of the circuit called "Lap". The driver completes the circuit in lesser time gets the first position on the grid and so on...

A light system above the track then signals the start of the race. Races are a little over 305 kilometers (190 miles) long and are limited to two hours. All the cars participate in the race one behind other in a two cars per row format. The final race is usually held on Sunday called Race Day. The race consists of several Laps depends upon the length of the circuit. During the race, drivers may make one or more pit stops in order to refuel and change tyres. The driver who first crosses the final Lap known as Chequered Flag will be the winner of the race. The first three drivers will go for podium to take the trophy with their National Anthem.

The motor sport's world governing body, FIA awards points to the top eight drivers and their respective teams of a Grand Prix.

The winner of the Driver Championship and Constructor Championship is decided by the most points collected by the drivers and teams respectively at the end of the season. If any drivers/teams have the exact amount of points the driver/team who has won more Grand Prix races during the course of the Season is declared the winner.
