Lewis Hamilton won De Monaco Grand Prix in McLaren


McLaren's Lewis Hamilton registered 2nd win of the season by winning an action packed 2008 De Monaco Grand Prix, on Sunday, 25th May, at Monte Carlo. After an early run into the barriers on a wet circuit as the rain fell, Hamilton managed to hold his nerve, becoming only the fifth Briton to take the chequered flag.

The race was full of accidents due to early rain but Hamilton , so superb in the wet, won the race in style, BMW Sauber's Kubica finished 2nd followed by Felipe Massa in his Ferrari.

Mark Webber finished fourth for Red Bull ahead of Sebastian Vettel, who finally got a break to bring his new Toro Rosso STR3 home fifth in front of Rubens Barrichello’s Honda, who finished sixth. The Williams of Kazuki Nakajima was seventh, with Kovalainen a resolute eighth.

Raikkonen was unable to slot back into a points-scoring position, finishing ninth overall. Force India had a good chance of scoring 1st points of the season as Adrian Sutil, who had driven superbly to hold fourth but accident with Raikkonen forced him out of the race.

Its all Ferrari in the front row at Monte Carlo as Brazilian Felipe Massa takes pole position followed by team mate Kimi Raikkonen as they got off to a great start in qualifying on Saturday for the Race Day on Sunday, 25th May, at 2008 De Monaco Grand Prix.

Massa lapped in 1m 15.787s to snatch pole from Raikkonen (1m 15.815s) in the dying seconds, and if he wins on Sunday he will be the first Ferrari driver to do so from pole here since Jody Scheckter in 1979.

McLaren shared the second row as Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen timed 1m 15.839s and 1m 16.165s respectively for 3rd and 4th place.

Robert Kubica in BMW was fifth with 1m 16.171s while Nico Rosberg carried his excellent practice form into qualifying with sixth on the grid for Williams in 1m 16.548s.

Fernando Alonso lined his Renault up in seventh place with 1m 16.852s, while Red Bull’s Mark Webber and David Coulthard were eighth and 10th.

Force India’s Adrian Sutil (1m 17.225s) and Giancarlo Fisichella (1m 17.823s) completed the order, with the latter looking set to start his 200th Grand Prix from last place after receiving a five-place grid penalty for a gearbox chang.

Lewis Hamilton looking for his 1st win of 2008 Formula 1 Championship, cruised through the streets of Monte Carlo on Thursday en route to what he hopes will be a maiden 2008 Monaco Grand Prix victory, on Race Day, Sunday , 25th May, 2008.

Hamilton posted the quickest time throughout practice, he 23-year-old's lap of one minute 15.140secs was almost 0.6secs quicker than Fernando Alonso's pole position of last season.

Williams of Nico Rosberg was second fastest, reigning world champion and current leader in the drivers' standings Kimi Raikkonen was third overall.

Fellow Ferrari driver Felipe Massa and McLaren's Heikki Kovalainen were fourth and fifth, and the only other drivers to come within a second of Hamilton's trailblazing time.

Robert Kubica is again firmly in the running as he was sixth, with Alonso seventh for Renault, although the Spaniard cut his session short.

Felippa Massa of Brazil won the 2008 Formula 1 Petrol Ofisi Turkish Grand Prix in Red Ferrari. Massa made history by winning 3 race in a row at Istanbul Park Circuit, Turkey, on Sunday, 11th May. He also won pole position and a pole hat-trick here. McLaren's Lewis Hamilton at 2nd place and Ferrari team mate Kimi Raikkonen grab the final podium finish.

Robert Kubica and Nick Hiefeld finished 4th and 5th respectively for BMW. Renault's driver Fernando Alonso grabbed the 6th position followed by Red Bull's Mark Webber at 7th place. Nico Rosberg of William's won the final points of Turkish Grand Prix.

David Coulthard in Red Bull finished 9th and Jarno Trulli of Toyota at 10th. This is a bad race for Force India F1, as Giancharlo Fisichella retired in the 3rd lap of the race and Adrian Sutil finished 16th.

Massa's seven career wins have now come at the Istanbul Park circuit, propelling the Brazilian to within seven points of current championship leader and Ferrari team-mate Kimi Raikkonen.
